The mother:
Her mother felt guilty for getting upset with her over her marks. She knew her daughter could do better and that was what upset her. She felt as if the girl wasn't trying hard enough. But she felt guilty for making her feel bad nonetheless.
She knew the easiest way to cheer up her daughter was to get her good food, she adored food. So on her way back from shopping she picked up some BURGER KING for her. It was a new burger she knew her daughter was craving.
The girl:
Her mother had been gone for a while now. She was getting hungry and wanted to eat something really good. She had been craving the new Burger King burger ever since she'd seen those posters on the way to school.
Around 15 minutes after this thought crosses her mind she hears the doorbell. Her brother opens it while she sits in the room doing her work. It's her parents, they're calling her to the kitchen. She can hear paper bags being crumpled and sauce packets being passes around for opening.
She steps into the kitchen and it turns out her mother had got her Burger King! she sits down to enjoy the beautiful burger when she realises they let the tomatoes in. Ugh! She hated tomatoes and her mother knew that. When she asked her mother if she had requested the staff to lay off the red veggie and she says she did. So that's one point off for the Burger King folk; bad service is no joke. It's a make or break deal, doesn't matter if you're running lousy gas station joint or a fast food chain or a 5 star restaurant. There's a certain state of decorum you maintain and listening to the customer and responding appropriately is of utmost importance. Her problem was solved by her dad, he swooped in and took both those nasty slimy pieces of tomatoes from her burger.
The burger was the new TEX - MEX burger,it was beef patty topped with jalapenos and cheese and white onions, lettuce and tomatoes ( which she got rid of) ranch and chipotle sauce, in between cornmeal topped bun . That's the basic description from off a menu.
This is what she had to say about what it looked like. To her the burger looked rather flat as if somebody had promised her beautiful balloon and given her a deflated one. They technically weren't lying, they did give her a beautiful balloon but not in the form she expected it to be. The toasted cornmeal on the bun though looked bright and inviting, the bun too seemed to be of a good quality, it had a golden brown hue and looked quite soft. The burger looked sloppy, the chipotle was streaming out of the burger and she could see the lettuce protruding outside the burger like it was trying to escape. "Well what more could you expect out of an outlet at the mall", she thought .
The fries that came with the meal though looked exquisite. Golden, crisp and perfectly salted. She picked one up and she could smell the goodness. With the first bite she felt the crisp outer shell break to give way to the soft hot potato on the inside. It was perfectly salted and perfectly textured. She ate her fries with some mayo as dip. It was so good that after she was done she licked the salt right off her greasy fingers. And she thought to herself how can something as simple as salt taste so good when combined with a little potato and a lot of oil.
Then she moved on to the burger. It was waiting for her. It was big, as large as her hands. It was a two hand affair. It smelled tempting, she plunged right in. As soon as that first bite was in her mouth she felt an explosion. It was good, quite spicy, but she was used to the heat. After a few chews though it became evident that the first bite was the best part about the burger. The meat was dry and the lettuce seemed dead. The onions brought tears to her eyes and not the good kind. But she ate more of it anyway. She wouldn't deem it as bad, but it wasn't great either; it was okay. The ranch dressing was runny and the cheese was hidden and had the texture of mashed peas. She was disappointed with the burger, it wasn't what she expected it to be. She doesn't think the burger like her either because the jalapenos and chipotle left her mouth burning. Thank god for the Coca Cola that comes with the meal!
